Poppo’s Taqueria

Located on the “Greenest Little Main Street In America”, known to locals simply as Pine Avenue, Poppo’s delivers authentic Mission Style Mexican Food using all natural and organic products. The best part? They make everything (minus the tortillas) from scratch!

The smell of fresh seasoned carnitas, chicken, tempeh and beef permeate the air surrounding their veranda, which makes it almost impossible to walk by without stopping in for a quick bite.

Choose between tacos, quesadillas, burritos, or bowls and fill them up with the many delicious ingredients available - like honey lime slaw or steamed kale. Not super hungry? Opt for the “Baby Bowl” for a pint sized version of savory goodness instead.

In the mood for an adult beverage? The bar inside features the widest selection of local craft beer on draft in Anna Maria! I highly recommend the Circa 1926 Wheat Ale but you might as well sample them all (hey, you’re on vacation). ;)

Shiny Fish Emporium

After filling up on tacos at Poppo’s Taqueria, take a stroll down the street to the whimsical, eclectic Shiny Fish Emporium. Fair warning - this is one of those stores that you can truly spend hours in, so set aside a little time to cool off and enjoy.

There are so many adorable little treasures all over the store which make for fun, unique gifts for both children and adults alike! One of my favorites were the “Surprize Balls” which consist of paper ribbons that you slowly untie to discover a hidden trinket inside.

Take a seat on the soft, tufted green sofa and treat yourself to their Hawaiian Ice-Cream Bubbles! The chocolate peanut-butter flavor was simply delish.

If you’re a creative type, you’ll LOVE their painting station where you can decorate your own sand dollar to bring home as a souvenir! Not super artsy? No worries! They have plenty of pre-painted sand dollar ornaments for sale.

Stir It Up Salad & Yogurt Shack

Located on Holmes Beach, Stir It Up is the perfect place to stop for a quick, healthy lunch or snack! They offer a salad bar with lots of fresh organic ingredients as well as a full frozen yogurt bar with tons of yummy toppings.

Their DIY Yogurt Bar features six different flavors that each combine to create three unique “twisted” flavors. Most change up seasonally so you’ll never have to try the same thing twice!

The toppings range from fresh fruit like strawberries, blueberries and bananas, to tasty tidbits like shredded coconut, rainbow sprinkles, and graham cracker crust. Half the fun is in creating your own concoction so don’t be shy!

I loved the Dreamsicle and Strawberry Tart frozen yogurts and decided to top them off with fresh fruit, sprinkles and shredded coconut for a seriously amazing (and dare I say “beautiful”) treat.

The hidden gems don’t stop with these three locations! Anna Maria Island is home to an array of fun and unique places that are just waiting to be explored. Don’t forget to check back next time for more Bradenton Area adventures in May!
