Enjoy an Evening of Shakespeare!

The Powel Crosley Estate presents “Shakespeare at the Crosley,” which returns this new year. Guests will immerse themselves in the historic glamour of the estate as they move from room to room to experience a family evening of theater and classic scenes from Master Playwright, William Shakespeare!

Performances will take place: January 19-24, 26-31 at 7:30 p.m., January 22-24, 29-31 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at 8374 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, Fla., and will include:

Scenes from Twelfth Night & Much Ado About Nothing (performed by Gwendolyn Crosley and John Barrymore) in the Great Room.

Scenes from Hamlet, Taming of the Shrew & Twelfth Night (performed by Ellen Terry and Eva La Gallienne) in the Library.

Scenes from Macbeth, King Lear & some Sonnets (performed by Judith Anderson and Errol Flynn) in Gwendolyn’s Room.

*There will be an Opening and Closing for each performance utilizing the outside courtyard (weather permitting). The opening will include the famous fight scene between Tybalt & Mercutio, and then Romeo from, of course, “Romeo & Juliet”. The closing will include the “Rude Mechanicals play” performed for the Athenian wedding party near the conclusion of “A Midsummer Nights Dream”; that being…”A tedious brief scene of young Pyramus and his love, Thisbe, very tragical mirth!”
