Get Gone Fishing
To this day, Cortez is the place you go when you want to fish like a local. It’s peppered with boats and fisherman with their lines in the water. Bring your own fishing pole and get comfortable on one of the piers or bridges or take a charter with Cortez Deep Sea Charters. It’s a must-stop fishing spot and a great place to immerse yourself in real Florida fishing, visit the old fish houses and listen to locals tell the (fish) tales of yesteryear. While rubbing shoulders with local fisherman, you can also ask about tricks of the trade and the best off-shore places to cast a line in the Bradenton Area.

Relive History
After fishing in Cortez, you’ll get a better feel for the rich history of the Bradenton Area. But be sure to stop by the Florida Maritime Museum to step back in time and learn how Cortez also shaped the fishing industry in all of Florida, too. Enjoy entertaining exhibits, interactive classes and events throughout the year. If you have a good time, feel free to leave a donation while you’re there. It’s the best way to help preserve the museum and the Cortez Fishing Village for generations to come.

Chow Down
While the Cortez Fishing Village is a popular spot to cast a line and travel back to simpler times, it is also one of the best places to eat in the Bradenton Area. It is home to Star Fish Company Restaurant, a truly authentic dockside restaurant serving some of the freshest seafood in the Bradenton Area – like grouper sandwiches, oysters and stone crabs. Here you can enjoy a meal and watch boats make their deliveries right there on the dock while pelicans perch on posts. You can even bring the fish you catch to the restaurant and they’ll cook it up however you’d like. Just be sure to get there early and bring cash – it’s cash-only and the place fills up pretty quick.
