Island Gallery and Studios Presents January Featured Artist: Janet Flickinger

Island Gallery and Studios is proud to announce Animal Friends, a solo exhibition by January’s Featured Artist, Janet Flickinger, on view from Friday, January 2 through Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Janet Flickinger’s artistic journey began during college, where she worked as an architectural model builder and first discovered her appreciation for the symmetry and precision of architectural design. She graduated with honors from the Art Institute of Houston in 1982 and spent the next decade working in graphic design and illustration. In 1993, she founded Flickinger Design Studio, balancing professional work with teaching—an endeavor that has allowed her passion for guiding others to flourish.

Over the years, Janet’s love for drawing and painting people has grown into a deeply refined style that blends social or photo realism with strong technical detail. Her work extends beyond ordinary perception, merging the fluidity of the human figure with architectural precision. She is equally inspired by the expressive qualities of animals, capturing the textures of skin, fur, feathers, and fins with striking sensitivity. Through her art, Janet seeks to convey the essence of everyday life and the soulful presence of the creatures she portrays.
