Nature As Your Gym

The Great Outdoors is considered by many as the original gym, and the Bradenton Area offers countless ways to get your heart pumping while in nature. Whether you’re just starting out in your fitness journey or are a lifelong enthusiast, you’ll find unique and exciting ways to enjoy your healthy routine in the Florida sunshine!

Outdoor Yoga

The serene shoreline of Anna Maria Island is a popular place for outdoor yoga, the ancient practice of mental focus and strengthening poses. The gentle roll of the waves washing up the shoreline provides the perfect ambiance to quieting your mind and tuning out the stresses of everyday life. The expert-led classes of Thrive Yoga are held on the beaches off Pine Avenue by the SandBar Restaurant every Saturday morning, and are suitable for all skill levels. (Be sure to bring a large blanket and some water.) If you’re feeling extra adventurous and want to harmonize while floating on top of the water, check out stand-up paddleboard yoga with the Salty Buddah on Pine Avenue!

Bike Trails

If you’re into pedaling, the Bradenton Area boasts miles of trails through many local parks and preserves. Hop on your bike and cycle across the paved and shell paths of Emerson Point, or cross the mangrove marshes along the boardwalks of Robinson Preserve. While these two unique public parks allow you spectacular views of the local ecology and wildlife, there are many more to explore from two wheels. Don’t forget to cycle the dedicated bike lanes on Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key, which will give you stunning overlooks that many miss from their cars!

Beach Volleyball

If team sports are more your speed, grab your volleyball and set out for the Bradenton Riverwalk. This popular, 1.5-mile-long public park stretches the shoreline of the Manatee River in downtown Bradenton and offers public art, playgrounds, a skatepark, and more. Near the eastern end of the Riverwalk is where you’ll find two regulation-sized beach volleyball courts, complete with powder-soft sand, rope fencing, and an unmatched outlook of the river. After your game, be sure to make your way to Old Main Street to enjoy some appetizers or a drink with your teammates!

Stand Up Paddleboard

Locals and visitors both enjoy taking to the water by stand-up paddleboard, offering a fun (and easy!) full-body workout. Picture yourself gliding smoothly along the top of the water while standing on a floating board, similar to a large surfboard. You’ll have a paddle in one hand that propels you across the water with ease, allowing you to navigate the shallows of Palma Sola Bay. The skilled guides of Surferbus have all of the necessary equipment for your outing, and will take the time to make sure you enjoy your excursion. Be sure to bring a waterproof camera, you’re going to want to document the fun!

Swimming

Swimming is synonymous with the Bradenton Area, especially when it comes to the beaches. With miles of sandy shoreline spanning Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key, you can backstroke at a new beach almost every day. The tranquil, emerald waters are perfect for splashing, lounging on an innertube, or swimming a few laps. Another perk? You might spot some magnificent marine life, including manatees and dolphin during your workout!
